Lions and Tigers and Bears....OH MY!!

You guessed it....we went to the zoo today.  I took my girls plus a friend for M and went to Denver to enjoy the day there for FREE!  We look forward to these free days that they have throughout the year, cuz this is the only time we go to that zoo.  I love doing things like this with my family...wish the boys could have come too, but they don't get to as much as I would like.
The day started out foggy as we were driving to Denver, then it turned sunny only to get foggy again.  It was crazy and it was cold....in the high 40's is all.  But it turned out to be a gorgeous day in the 60's and we had a great time.

My favorite was the tigers.  There were 4 new cubs born in May that were playing around the enclosure.  It was fun to watch them, however it was hard to get a good pix of them.  Some boy in an orange sweatshirt was watching up front and his reflection showed in almost all the pictures.  I knew it would, but I thought maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought.  OK, so I was wrong.  I finally was able to move to another spot at the window and got a couple.  But by that time, they were settling down and so there was not much action.  Oh well, they were so very cute and fun to watch.
see the orange reflection....he was annoying me!

like mother, like daughter

aren't they so cute and cuddly!!

The polar bears were boring and not swimming, but the otters were swimming all over the place.  This one otter would keep doing the same thing over and over....a back flip.  I guess he felt the need to show off to everyone.
#1--feet on rock

#2--push off rock

#3--flip and repeat!!

We were able to see a sea lion show...well sort of.  It was so crowded around the enclosure that the only way we could see was to stand on a table behind everyone.  Here he is catching a fish.

But we did get up close for the elephant show.  Since it was October, they got a tasty treat...pumpkins.  One small step and the pumpkins were smashed and being eaten.

We were amazed at how many new babies have been born at the zoo in the last several months that we were able to see.  There was a baby giraffe that was fun to watch as he ran around the giraffe yard.  I don't see how they can run on those goofy looking legs.

Of course, we couldn't leave without seeing the bears.  K would not have been happy.  But they were quite boring to watch as they napped.  We left to see the gorillas and came back by to see if they were doing something by now.  We found they had only moved a little and were still sleeping and being lazy.
I got a kick out of this one with his belly exposed to the sun.  Love the tan stripe!

We love the zoo!  It is always nice to go to a bigger zoo than ours.  Don't get me wrong...I like our zoo, but there are animals at the Denver Zoo that are not at ours.  Besides, it is was fun to get out of town for a bit.  Thank goodness the free day fell during Fall Break.  What great timing!

I love that you can spend time with your girls. I would have loved to do that with my girls, but it just didn't work out for me.

Enjoy them now for before you know it they will be grown and either won't want to play together or will be on their own.
