Christmas Eve

We had our normal Christmas Eve party with hubby's family.  This year it was held at his brother's new house and it seemed like we had so few there.  That is what happens when kids get married and move away, go on missions and such.  But it was a nice evening.

We had a nice turkey meal with all the fixins....so tasty.  We enjoyed the visiting and the cousins had a good time playing together as usual.  After we were stuffed, we headed downstairs to have Granny take over the rest of the evening.  We read the Christmas story but also many other scriptures that help understand about Christ and His birth.  She is always so well versed in the scriptures....I wish I were more like her.  Last year we started a new tradition of bringing a white elephant gift to exchange, so we did that.  Somehow we ended up with 2 of the 5 gifts we brought....how did that happen?  I brought them to get rid of them and we brought the biggest one back home darn it.  I can never seem to rid our home of that stupid bright red stuffed anteater. But it is always fun to see what goofy gift people bring.

Then we did the gift bag game that Granny puts together every year.  Instead of reading the normal story she does every year....pass it to the right when she says the word right, left when she says left and across when she reads the word across.....she decided to read How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  The key words were Grinch, Santa, and Christmas.  We all love to do this game and it was fun to have a different story to boot.  It was very funny as we all ended up with the exact same bag we started with.

We are always so excited to see what little things she has bought for the bags and of course, an envelope of money is always inside as well.  This year, the funny gift we all got were these vibrating toothbrushes.....Kristie got the only Barbie one.

We all headed back upstairs for dessert of brownies with peppermint ice cream and chocolate syrup on top. It was yummy, but the best part was the snow that had started to fall.  We were all so excited to have a white Christmas.  After taking some pictures, we headed home later than normal to do our own traditions at our houses.

Every year the kids get to open one present the night before....always jammies.  This year, I decided that I needed some too.  First time in who knows when that I got jammies of my own.  OK, so I bought them and wrapped them up, but at least I found some.
And then the picture under the tree.  I sent jammies to T too and told him to open that one on Christmas Eve.  I thought about him as we were taking pictures....wishing he could be here wearing his new jammies too.  Anyway, after discussing the earliest time that kids could be out of their rooms in the morning, they all went to bed.....hope sugar plums are dancing in their heads real soon.
