The Favorite Son Returns

OK, so he is my only son, but he is still my favorite!! I sure missed him!Today, my hubby and I were privileged to go to the Air Force Academy this morning to pick up T from Summer Leadership School. He left Sunday afternoon to spend the whole week with his JROTC at the Academy Prep School. There were 7 other high schools from Colorado, New Mexico and Kansas with a total of about 135 or so that were involved. These cadets were chosen by their JROTC teachers to attend this very special program offered every year. T was so excited to be one of those to go from his school.

This morning was graduation and it was so fun to go and watch him in his element. This is T. This is what he wants to do and he was so very happy to be there. After this week, he is more determined than ever to get into the Air Force. I must admit, I was beaming with pride as I watched him receive his certificate and see his excitement. I couldn't help but cry. He is such a good son and is so talented in many ways. He has wonderful qualities that will help him be successful in this life, whatever he does. It was such a nice morning to spend with him. I am sure we will notice a change in him as this, I am sure, taught him more things than I can even imagine. Although, it was stated that they still did not know how to flush a toilet--HeeHee. T has always been a good leader, but I know that he has learned some skills that will make him a great leader.

They were divided into 4 different flights for the week and they were mixed up with all the other schools so he didn't have many friends with him. They had different competitions all week as well as classes and PT to attend each day. He said they were 16 hour days and the only time they were in civilian clothes was at bedtime in their dorms. He was in C Flight and they came in FIRST in "Field Exercise" and SECOND in "Inspection" and "PT". The only one they didn't place in was "Drill", so his flight was pretty good. They were also in contention for the "Honor Flight" but was beat out by D Flight. At graduation, there was a slide show that depicted the week in pictures. I took several pictures and movies of that so T would have something to look back on and remember those great times. It looked so fun and with all the stories he was telling us on the way home (and I am sure we will hear more over the next weeks), it sounded like he had a blast. I am so grateful that he had this experience and I hope (and he does too) that he will be able to attend next year too.
