I took so many pictures....
and this is my journal of sorts....
that it will take me several posts to tell the whole story.
So if you want to know all the details, keep checking back---there will be many (we were gone for 2 weeks afterall) All the places that we went on this trip were places that my hubby and I have been before, but the kids hadn't. We were excited to re-visit these places and see what had changed and what had stayed the same.
First stop..........
LAS VEGAS
Vegas is a looooooong drive from Colorado Springs, just saying! Of course, we did make a few stops along the way with one being a bit longer than all the others (your welcome T-I know it wasn't long enough though). But we finally made it into Vegas in time for dinner at......of course......In N Out! We met my parents there who had already checked us in to our rooms at the Excalibur.
I love Vegas for the sheer fact of cheap hotel rooms. Although we were quite bummed that the buffets were not cheap anymore. The kids had never been to Vegas, so we took off to drive the strip with all the lights everywhere. We had to stop at the Bellagio to watch the water show (we had been watching Ocean's Eleven you know) It amazes me how high the water fountains go and the "boom" it makes when it hits the height.
We rode the tram to several hotels, and oooed and aahed at their lobbies. The kids wanted to ride the roller coaster at the New York New York, but after finding out it was $15 a person, we opted to wait for Disneyland. The kids wanted to ride the elevator up the pyramid (the Luxor) and was bummed to find out that you had to be a guest there to do that. Then of course, they wondered why we didn't stay there instead. But when the room is twice the price as what we paid, they had to be satisfied at looking UP from the bottom floor. (my hubby and I have actually stayed there and it really is fun to go up and have the walls move closer in on you.)
On our way back to the room, we had to have a midnight snack......Krispy Kreme donuts. YUM!
Now did I mention that it was hot here????? How could that have slipped my mind when I was sweating so badly you would have thought I had worked out for an hour with Jillian Michaels. 117 degrees when we arrived and I think it dipped down to 100 by the time we got back to out rooms at midnight. There was wind, but it was a hot wind and so did nothing to help cool us down for even a second. It was unbearable and I wonder how anyone can live here. * I told the kids that if their dad ever moved here I would divorce him and they would have to choose who to live with :) Thank goodness for air conditioning!
Vegas is a really fun town. Yes, it is considered sin city but there is lots to see and do. We hardly scratched the surface with the kids, but that will have to do for now.
VIVA LAS VEGAS BABY!
Next stop....
HOOVER DAM
Before heading on to California, we went out to see the Hoover Dam. We heard they are building a new road above the dam and we wanted to see it. We ended up having to wait in a 2 mile long stop-and-go traffic jam to get even close enough to see it. We ended up parking and walking out onto the dam and getting a glimpse of the new road in the distance. What a road!
Of course, we had to take a picture with us at the Arizona/Nevada state line in the middle of the bridge. They use to have the state names written on the road and now they just have a marker on the sidewalk. Kind of boring, but ....
Again, HOTNESS!!! We were so hot that we even ducked into the bathroom just to get a break from the heat. Thank goodness it had a comfortable place to sit.
K ended up wetting paper towels and taking them with her to put on her face. The cool lasted all of about 2 minutes before she was complaining again that she was sooooooo hot. Join the group sista!! We could hardly wait to get back into the air conditioned car and stop to get us some drinks to cool down.
We were off to meet up with the rest of the group.
California here we come
