Finally one of my children takes up the sport that my hubby and I love to pieces----VOLLEYBALL! The elementary school offered it when T was in 3rd or 4th grade, but that was for only one year and then it never happened again---and it is not offered in the middle school, and only for girls in the high school. But even if it was ever offered, I was doubting that any of my kids would want to play. Until now........
We heard rumors earlier this school year that they might get a boy's team together but it was not a done deal. But a couple of weeks ago, they made a team and started to play. This is after T had decided to do Track again and so he was very bummed. However, turns out he can do both (yikes-add one more activity to our list). It is not considered a "varsity" sport, so they only have one practice a week and it is later in the evening with a game here and there. There are no official uniforms and they do not have bus transportation to the games. This means I get to take him to every game-which I don't have a problem with. I did hear they are getting t-shirts made up, so at least they won't have to duct tape numbers to the back of their shirts like they did.
He had his first set of matches last night and they actually didn't do too bad for only having 2 practices. There were 3 teams and they had to play each other, so T played 2 games. They didn't win any of the matches, but they did at least win one game in each match and they almost ended up winning their last match. There are only 10 that play on his team, compared to like 20 on the other teams.
He had a good time and is excited to play. And I am excited to watch him. Makes me want to start playing again.
