The Cricket with Fire and Thunder

Saturday was our annual trip to Bandemere Speedway in Denver.  The elementary school offers a reading program where the kids can earn free tickets to a special night at the races called "Fire and Thunder".  We first went several years ago when M read 13 sheets to be the top reader at her school.  Besides getting in free, she got a bag full of fun stuff and her name in lights.  Ever since then, we have never missed it.  Back then, we all got in free, but these days since only 2 out of the 4 are in that school, we end up having to pay for 2.  But it is worth it and we always have such a good time.  Our favorite part is when they roll out the jet powered cars and man....those are loud.  We love it.  (thank goodness for ear plugs)

This year, we decided to go up early and eat at a new burger joint that we have been dieing to try for months.  Actually it has been around since 1945, but when I saw it on "Man vs Food", it looked too good to pass up.  I have been waiting for the right time to go and this was it--and it was gooooooood!  It is called.......
They have a yummy looking menu, but we decided that we had to try the famous burgers first.  Maybe on our next visit we will try something different, but the burgers were so good that maybe we won't.  You can choose from 21 different items to put on that burger, so you can go crazy if you want.  T was the craziest with green chilis, bacon, and A-1.  The rest of us each just picked a different kind of cheese and then bacon.  Delish!
Can't forget the baskets of fries--they were good too,
And K got sloshed on the bottled Root Beer

It was quite comical when we arrived, as they "card" you at the door.  I didn't have my ID with me, so I wasn't sure he wasn't going to let me in.  Thank goodness my hubby had his...it was a bar/restaurant after all.  I think the restaurant was an after thought cuz it was most definitely a bar. Yes, we are such great parents as to take our children to a bar.  :)  Actually it had several rooms and we were ushered to the farthest back room they could find--were they trying to tell us something???  It was nice and smoke free and we had a great time.  We all agreed that it is a place we would like to visit again.  You should all try it!

And a great time was had by all!

SIDE NOTE:  This year we were even lucky enough to see the space station AND the space shuttle fly over.  My hubby tried to get a picture of it on my new fancy camera and this is what he got.  Not bad since my old camera would have just been a solid black picture.

What a perfect day! Fast cars, a cute family and great food. I'm so glad you had such a good time. We'll have to give Fire and Thunder a shot one of these times too!

btw, I know what you mean. When we went to Cricket I thought "what am I doing taking my sons to a place with a bouncer?" But oh, it was worth it. Your pix made me hungry!

We tried to go to that burger place while we were in Denver over spring break but the wait was 2 hours. We are going to try and go there next time. Although now it sounds like we will be taking Ally to her first bar!!
The boys went to the races while Ally and me stayed home. She has a couple of years still before she will get to go!
